Unaccompanied Minors

UMNR procedure is a special service provided by Air Moldova which consists in supervision, by the airline’s staff during the journey, of the children aged over 5 years old traveling alone.

Some countries' immigration authorities require additional documentation (like legal declaration or permits) for children traveling alone. So, when planning a trip of a minor alone, please make sure to inquire about the legal requirements of the residence country of the minor, country of departure /arrival /transit at the respective country’s immigration authorities or embassies in order to ensure the minor will have all the correct documentation for the journey.

Unaccompanied Minors

Minors citizens of RM traveling alone:
According to Republic of Moldova requirements (Law of Republic of Moldova on exit and entry into RM no.269-XIII from 09.11.1994) minors, citizens of RM, have the right to exit and enter the Republic of Moldova only accompanied by a parent, legal representatives (persons designated by law to exercise the parental rights) or by an attendant over 18 years old, appointed by a written declaration legally notarized. The declaration will mention the purpose of travel, length of the stay and destination country.

A minor citizen of RM traveling alone on Air Moldova flights, will need a declaration from a parent / a legal representative legally notarized, which will appoint Air Moldova flight attendants as accompanying persons on the respective flights. The list of flight attendants who will accompany the child during the flight can be obtained from the Air Moldova agency by phone: +373 22 830 830, e-mail: helpdesk@airmoldova.md. We suggest making up the declaration of appointment of Air Moldova flight attendants as accompanying persons of the minor as close as possible to the date of the departure or not early than 1 month before the departure date of the flight, due to possible changes in the list.

Minors, citizens of other countries than RM citizens, traveling alone:
We recommend to consult the exit/entry requirements of the residence country of the minor, of the country of departure and arrival, and ensure you have all necessary documentation prepared for the minor traveling alone.

The UMNR service is applicable:

  • to all children from 5 up to 12 years old traveling alone,
  • to all minors citizens of RM from 12 up to 18 years old traveling alone when departing from The Republic of Moldova
  • to minors from 12 up to 18 years old traveling alone when entering The Republic of Moldova - on parents’ request or in case of doubt of child’s ability to travel alone

The UMNR service is subject to additional payment: 60 eur per each Air Moldova flight. The service will be provided if it is requested at time of booking and confirmation from Air Moldova is received.

On departure, the parent or designated accompanying adult of the minor to the airport has to sign the Unaccompanied Minor form (Handling Advice) at check-in and stay at the airport until departure of the flight. On arrival, the minor will be released only to the designated adult specified in the Unaccompanied Minor form (Handling Advice) completed at the airport of the departure upon presentation of a valid ID with a photo for check.

The designated adult must be present at the destination airport, before the arrival of the flight. In the event that the meeting adult on arrival is not the one mentioned in the signed document, that person must hold a written authorization from the parent or designated guardian that he/she is allowed to meet and collect the minor. If the designated adult fails to meet the minor upon arrival or shows up to collect the minor with delay, Air Moldova is authorized to take whatever action is considered reasonable and necessary to ensure the minors’ safe custody, including returning the minor to the original destination with the first available flight.

The parent or guardian will have to reimburse Air Moldova all additional expenses and extra charges incurred in taking such actions when the minor is collected from the airline’s custody.
